SINGH IS KINNG - my movie review

Like all others even I was equally enchanted to watch the year’s most awaited movie SINGH IS KINNG. The way the film was hyped and Akshay-Katrina+Anees Bazmee+the beautiful songs+Vipul Shah Factors being at the helm of affairs were enough to entice me to watch the movie at least once.

Talking about the movie than it’s a typical Anees Bazmee style of movie wrapped with mindless comedy. The story unfolds like this Lucky Singh (Sonu Sood) is a mafia King in Australia and surprisingly his fellow gangsters are only Sardars. Where else Happy Singh (Akshay Kumar) a simpleton, happy go lucky & notorious character, from a small village in Punjab is a large-hearted guy. He is a do-gooder who’ll do anything for his people. He always tries to do good but exactly the opposite happens. Because of this the villagers get fed up and one fine day when they get an opportunity they decide to send him far away to Australia, to bring back Lakhan Singh a.k.a Lucky, who is the underworld King. He takes the mission seriously and embarks on his journey to Australia accompanied by his close friend Rangeela (Om Puri). But on his way he lands up in Egypt instead of Australia by mistake where he meets Sonia (Katrina Kaif) and falls in love with her at first sight. Happy then makes his way to Australia. In the comic chaos of getting Lucky Singh back, Happy Singh finds himself becoming the king of the underworld.

Overall the movie is okay. It neither falls under bad attempt nor a good one. Director and writer Anees Bazmee has used too many characters, too many plots, too many sub-plots, too many songs, too many gags and most of it doesn't work in the favour of entertainment. There are many loopholes in this mindless entertainer. First of all the screenplay is weak and doesn’t have a perfect flow. And that is why it fails to engage the viewer. Though few moments are quite hilarious and rib-tickling but many a times it gives a feel of a forced humor. Normally the title of the movie is the outcome of the storyline/script/theme of the film. But in the case of SINGH IS KINNG it seems to be opposite. Here the script or the theme of the film seems to be influenced by the title. Anees took the utmost care of the title and knitted the incidents based on the title.

Talking about characterization than actors like Sonu Sood and Neha Dhupia are wasted. Sonu has brilliant acting skills and can do really well if offered good roles. Katrina looks sweet and charming but as far as acting is concerned she has to still go long way. Even actor like Om puri didn’t have much to do though his chemistry with Akshay is amusing. His presence is there for first half, second half didn’t provide the actor much opportunity to showcase his performance. Ranvir Shorey has played his part well, though small but he does leave a mark. But amidst all this I wonder why Anees cast Javed Jaffrey in a double role with his two characters not even remotely complementing each other. There was no requirement as such. Javed Jaffrey lived upto its mark, but carried an unwanted accent which was obviously looking artificial. Rest all the characters played by Sudhanshu Pandey, Yashpal Sharma, Kamal Chopra are okay. They seemed to be additional in the crowd of too many characters. On the whole it’s an Akshay Kumar movie. He is the only soul and mind of the movie. If the movie is interesting than it’s solely because of the new ‘King’ of the town Akshay Kumar. Akshay Kumar, like always, plays his comic character with effortless ease.

Pritam’s music is excellent and he once again succeeds in delivering the best. After back to back hits like RACE, JANNAT, KISMAT KONNECTION and now SINGH IS KINNG, this year surely seems to be Pritam’s year. Pritam’s tuneful music and Akshay are the only saving factors which will sustain SINGH IS KINNG in the market.

This movie will rake in good moolah in overseas and India especially in North India. I must add the makers have really worked hard and have done a brilliant job in marketing the film. They left no stones unturned in promoting the movie in and out. I only wish had they concentrated on the script as well.

Anyways according to me it’s a one time watch. Neither would you want to miss it because of the amount of hype & hoopla built around. Nor you will be completely satisfied with the film. You can definitely give a try.

May be it's a hyped movie, but the box office says a different story. What matters is the commercial success and as reports available all across the movie is a big hit

Yes, i agree with rajpal singh....what really matter is the commercial success...I really enjoyed the first hour SIK but than 2nd hour got loose somewhere...However, somehow the movie managed to sent the message..Overall very average movie..2.5/5..songs 4/5...really hated the javed jaffrey song

Last but not the least, even OSO was also boring & dragging in 2nd half..It was too predictable but yet it was a blockbuster....

If u want to know good & memorable movies than its definitely laagan, RDB, & DDLL only...These movies u can watch over over again and dont get bored.....the rest of the movies nowdays are only one time watch or should i say " How to waste your time for 2 hours for dummies"

whtaever the movie is i loved watching Katrina...she was looking ausum...she is very cute, charming, beautiful and i am big fannnnnnnn of hers. ya i must say Akshay's acting was really good he was tooo good as usual in his performance. KUDOS to AKSHAY & KATRINA's rocking chemistry and pair!!1

Singh is King is a great movie. I specially like Akshay's acting. He acts so well and he is so funny. Katrina also looks gorgeous in song 'Jee Karda'. Akshay looks funny wearing a turban. Overall a great film.
